What are the two largest political parties?
Who is the Republican party’s nomination for president?
Why does Donald Trump say he would be a good president?
In August, both major political parties, or groups, officially nominated their presidential candidates. The two largest political parties are the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. The parties held large meetings called conventions to do this. These conventions were mostly held online and on TV due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The person in this picture is the president of the United States. Donald Trump was elected president in 2016. He belongs to the Republican Party. He will be running for re-election this fall.
Trump surprised many people in 2016 by capturing the Republican nomination, and then winning the general presidential election. He beat out the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump was born in New York City. He was a businessman and TV personality before he became the president. In this photo, you see Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Trump will again be running alongside incumbent Vice President Mike Pence. An incumbent is the person who currently holds the position.
Mike Pence is 61 years old. Pence was a lawyer and a radio talk show host in Indiana. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, and served there for 12 years. Then he returned to Indiana and became governor in 2012.
Donald Trump says he should be re-elected because he is doing a great job as president. Trump points out that the economy was doing very well before the coronavirus crisis. He has criticized violent protests, saying that he is the best choice to bring “law and order” to America.
